There are many ways you can go about bringing traffic to your blog or website, such as SEO, links, advertising, article submissions, StumbleUpon, Digg and writing in forums, to name a few. However, there is only one way that allows you to bring in traffic consistently. That’s by adding more content to your website or blog.

Traffic from StumbleUpon, Digg and all the others are just fly-by-night, as far as I’m concerned. Yeah, it’s a nice ego boost to see your traffic skyrocket for a day or two, but it doesn’t bring good, targeted traffic to your site. You’d be better off having Google send you five to ten new visitors a week from a long tail keyword, than have StumbleUpon bring you two thousand visitors that are just passing through. Why? Because the visitors you’ll get from a long tail keyword are more inclined to:

  • Click on your ads
  • Subscribe to your RSS feed
  • Take a closer look at your product
  • Opt-in for your newsletter
  • Share your site with others
  • Bookmark your site
  • Link back to a page on your site
  • Buy your product
  • Become a return visitor or customer

So how do you get these great visitors?

Just keep producing good content the search engines do the rest. Yes, it’s that simple. Think of every new page you create as an investment in internet real estate. The more content you have, the greater the chance the search engines will send you more targeted traffic from long tail keywords. And, you continue to receive this traffic as long as you rank for the search term.

If you already have a blog or website, you might have already noticed that you get hits for great long tail keywords, you didn’t even know existed. This is the greatest benefit of all.

Also, it’s cheap to add new, relevant content to your website or blog. You do have to pay for web hosting and possibly someone to help you produce great content, if you can’t do it yourself. But, it’s still a really cheap and effective way to get more traffic.

So, publish something new on your site or blog everyday, just so you can get this great traffic from long tail keywords.
